In the middle of the Aravalli Ranges of Rajasthan, Udaipur is famous for its historic Rajput-era forts, grand palaces, scenic lakes, architectural temples, museums, galleries, traditional festivals and rich culture.
1. City Palace: Nestled within the Aravalli Mountain Range, City Palace is a brilliant concoction of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The interiors of the City Palace are studded with mirror-work, murals, wall paintings, silver-work, and delicate colored glass.
2. Monsoon Palace: Nestled on a hilltop, Monsoon Palace which is also known as the Sajjangarh Palace is a stunning structure made out of exquisite white marble. It was constructed under the reign of Maharana Sajjan Singh and reflects the glorious past of the Mewar Kingdom.
3. Lake Palace: In the middle of Lake Pichola, Lake Palace was constructed in the 18th century. It displays grand architecture where the walls are studded with semi-precious stones and constructed out of graceful marble. Ever since the Lake Palace has been transformed into a heritage hotel, several eminent people like Queen Elizabeth and US First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy have resided here as guests. Lake Palace has also been utilized as a shooting spot for several movies including the James Bond film, Octopussy.
4. Jag Mandir Palace: On an island in Lake Pichola, Jag Mandir Palace was constructed in the 16th century. Back in those days, Jag Mandir Palace was used as a summer resort and a venue for hosting gala parties. Today, it is open to visitors from all around the world and remains open from 10:00 AM- 6:00 PM.
